We are looking for an Occupational Health & Safety Program Manager, with a sense of urgency and the ability to problem-solve, to join our People Operations team that will apply occupational health & safety principles to maintain a safe and healthy work environment.You will be responsible for the assessment, treatment, and referrals of employees with occupational and non-occupational illnesses and injuries – including a growing on-site laboratory staff in our COVID-19 testing lab. You will manage and execute workplace health and safety programs. You will act as the liaison between injured/ill employees and assist in accessing benefits/worker’s compensation. You will manage Return to Work Programs; including those related to COVID-19, and provide leadership in case management, health promotion, regulatory compliance, (OSHA, FMLA, ADA, etc.), as well as risk reduction activities.This is a full time position based in Burlingame, CA.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Partner with onsite leadership teams to develop safety, health, and environment KPI’s for COVID-19 testing lab environment, as well as our standard office work environment.
- Support site leadership in maintaining compliance with internal and external policies/requirements through the creation/implementation of systems, processes, and procedures.
- Develop, train, and coach all employees on, programs/systems/processes with clear procedures for safety, health, and environment measures and precautions.
- Lead effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment/prediction processes to effectively identify and mitigate hazards, and ensures effective communication, and understanding of all affected employees.
- Drive compliance and foster a culture of safety, hygiene, health, and the environment through the implementation of programs, systems, and processes, policies, and procedures that are OSHA/other compliant and reflective of industry best practices.
- Consult on the design and use of equipment, facilities, fire prevention, and safety programs.
- Lead effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment, risk prediction, risk prevention processes to identify and mitigate hazards; investigates all safety, health, and environment-related incidents using tools for root cause analysis/corrective-preventive actions to prevent recurrence and ensures corrective/preventive measures are effectively implemented (including injury case management) – inspect/tour facilities; monitor accidents/near misses and prepare required reports; keep management and employees alerted to, and control employee exposure to hazards associated with toxic fumes, dangerous chemicals, biohazards, and other hazardous substances, allergens and ergonomic risk/injury factors. These exposures specifically include work with COVID-19 patients and their biological samples.
- Coordinate with workers compensation/insurance carrier regarding claims/proactive avoidance of claims.
- Develop safety, hygiene, health, and environment culture and participation through active support, coaching, and feedback, working with site leadership teams, safety committees, and laboratory operations in training, communication, and development of key performance indicators.
Our Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in safety, health sciences, engineering or related degree or experience/training at an equivalent level
- 5-10 years’ relevant experience and/or training
- Comprehensive knowledge of US OSHA regulations and working knowledge of Workers Compensation Law a must
- Industrial hygiene monitoring experience and/or certification, and other health and safety certifications/training desirable (e.g., ergonomics, CSP)
- Ability to work with and communicate at all levels of the organization
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills are a must
- Experience working in a laboratory environment
Nice to Have:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification a plus
- Current CPR/AED certification (eligibility for NSC Instructor certification a plus)
