PRESIDENT'S LETTER
Greetings Chapter Members!

Hope everybody had a safe summer!  We're starting to ramp up our 2021-2022 chapter year and are excited to be of service to our members and our community.

Society is still instructing us to monitor the COVID situation and proceed with caution. Accordingly, we will plan on hosting virtual meetings for the foreseeable future. In fact, many members indicated that virtual meetings worked better with their schedules. We received some really good feedback on the member survey concerning topics for this term. Thank you for completing the survey and giving us direction on what subjects are of most interest.

Be on the lookout for upcoming meeting and events email notifications. If you are currently not receiving our email notifications, please log onto your ASSP account and verify that your email is correct in their system.

We are looking for volunteers! We need you and your talents. If you are interested in getting involved, please contact any member of the board.
Immediate positions: PDC Planning Committee, Communication Chair, Treasurer, VP Special Events.

We have two goals for this chapter year. The chapter first goal is to increase membership engagement. Our second goal is to promote ASSP through community outreach. Help us reach these goals. The chapter is looking for ways to get involved with the community. If you are aware of any community events or organizations that our chapter can partner and work with, we would like to know. Please contact: tiffanyreneebarnett@gmail.com.

As members, both professionals and students, this organization is yours, as much as it is mine. So please take the time to be present, engage, voice your ideas, be a role model to others, and continue to build on the infrastructure that has been established before us. This chapter is defined by what its membership brings to the table. I know everyone is busy, but not only are we participating for our own benefit and that of the community, but also for the future of Safety and Health. Engage, Commit, and build a better tomorrow!

                             Tiffany Barnett
                            SF Chapter President

Executive Board Committee

On July 1, 2021, new officers took their place on the executive committee board. It is with great appreciation to our past president, Jonathan Scruggs, that I, Tiffany Barnett, step into the President's role. I look forward to another successful year and interfacing with our chapter members.

Alice Yu, our new President-Elect, brings a wealth of energy and experience to the committee. Like many of you, she can now add Survivalist to her resume. Alice is leading the PDC committee again this year, and even with the many challenges of COVID-19, the PDC committee in currently planning another awesome PDC in March 2022.

Tami Galt remains a consistent and reliable chapter pillar, as she continues her role of VP of Membership this term. Tami is the quiet strength that guides and mentors committee members. Tami welcomes all new members and continues to engage with our members.

Michael Boyle, as Secretary, documents our actions to ensure that our executive committee and membership follow our bylaws. Michael's humor keeps the board focused on our chapter goals.

As VP of Programs, Shanon Winston works hard to bring us the most relevant and top speakers, as well as planning tours and other events. It does not hurt that these activities will also help us climb the ladder to maintain Platinum Status again this term.

Dave Paoletta has the duties of Treasurer this term. Dave has served in this thankless position for many years. His service to ensure our chapter remains strong and well managed has been invaluable.

Mark Stone, is our government affairs chair. Mark has not only been a member of ASSP for 40 years, but his commitment to the SF Chapter has been unwavering over the years. Thanks to Mark for all his years of service.

Mary Jo Press, has been our long standing awards chair. We love recognizing our members and Mary Jo makes this happen!

Allison Johnson, leads our Construction Section. Her many years of experience in construction bring a wealth of ideas and solutions to the committee.

Dr. Shelia, leads our Grape Vine Section. Her positive attitude and commitment to the section have created a successful section.

Charity Nichols has recently taken over the Wise Chair from Tamara Vartanian. Thanks to Tamara, WISE section has been established and is growing.

Lawrence Livermore National Lab National Ignition Facility (NIF) Tour

The National Ignition Facility (NIF), is a large laser-based inertial confinement fusion (ICF) research device, located at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. NIF uses lasers to heat and compress a small amount of hydrogen fuel with the goal of inducing nuclear fusion reactions. NIF's mission is to achieve fusion ignition with high energy gain, and to support nuclear weapon maintenance and design by studying the behavior of matter under the conditions found within nuclear weapons. NIF is the largest and most energetic ICF device built to date, and the largest laser in the world.

Thirty two members joined the virtual tour.

ASSP thanks Jami King, LSO for LLNL, for being an awesome virtual tour guide. He received our SF ASSP Mug as a thank you.

We will post the jobs to our website. This is done currently at no charge, but the chapter is always accepting donations to help establish our scholarship fund. Your contribution is appreciated.
