Michelle Rosales, MPH, CIH

Michelle Rosales has more than 13 years of experience managing complex environmental health and industrial hygiene service projects throughout California and U.S. She has managed hundreds of investigations involving a variety of physical, chemical and biological hazards in sensitive occupational and community settings that include healthcare facilities and schools.

Michelle specializes in occupational and environmental exposure assessments, wildfire and structure fire assessments, and indoor environment air quality evaluations. These projects require in-depth investigative research and sampling, data interpretation, and preparation of reports with recommendations for corrective actions and conclusions.

Michelle is a nationally recognized expert who has presented on technical topics at conferences and symposia throughout the county. She has also published several significant publications related to various industrial hygiene topics and concerns.  She is a leading expert on the impact of wildfire smoke to communities, including worker’s health and impact to structures. She is a primary author of AIHA’s Technical Guide for Wildfire Impact Assessments for the OEHS Professional Technical Guide and has been asked to present at various associations regarding the topic.

Martin Von Raesfeld

Martin Von Raesfeld began his fire service career in 1984 as a fire fighter for the South County Fire Protection Authority.  In 1992, he joined the Santa Clara Fire Department as a Fire Inspector. Shortly after joining the Santa Clara Fire Department, Marty was promoted to the rank of Deputy Fire Marshal.  In 1998, he was promoted to the chief officer rank of Fire Marshal which he served until my retirement in 2014.  In August of 2015, Marty joined the Stanford University Fire Marshal’s Office as the Fire Inspection Supervisor.

Marty will speak to the hazards of wildfire related to fire and protecting homes from the dangers of wildfires.

Timur Durrani, MD, MPH, MBA

Dr. Timur S. Durrani is the Medical Director of Health Services at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco, where he holds appointments in the Department of Medicine, Division of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Durrani earned his Medical Degree from the University of Arizona, where he also earned his Master of Public Health.  He holds board certifications in Family Medicine, Preventive Medicine, Occupational Medicine and Medical Toxicology.  He is a graduate of the UCSF Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency and the UCSF Medical Toxicology Fellowship.  His academic responsibilities include teaching medical and pharmacy students, as well as graduate medical trainees including Emergency Medicine, Pediatrics, Occupational and Environmental Medicine residents, and Medical Toxicology Fellows.  As a consultant for the Medical Toxicology Service, he provides clinical care for acutely poisoned patients at the San Francisco General Hospital, as well as outpatient Medical Toxicology consultations through the UCSF Occupational and Environmental Medicine Faculty Practice where he treats patients of all ages with heavy metal exposure, including mercury and lead, due to occupational, environmental or accidental exposure.  He serves as Medical Toxicology consultant for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, region 9, and the Environmental Protection Agency, region 9 and is the Co-Director of the Western States Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit, grant funded by the Agency for Toxic Substances Disease Registry and the Environmental Protection Agency.  He is a reviewer for the Journal of Medical Toxicology, and has developed online training modules in Occupational and Environmental Health, including one with the American College of Medical Toxicology.  Dr. Durrani has publications in basic science and public health disciplines, and has presented abstracts in neurotoxicology.Dr. Durrani’s career combines medicine with public health, allowing him to focus on individual patients while considering their population and environment.  He has experience in caring for populations both domestically and internationally, having volunteered in multiple countries and as a Preventive Medicine Officer with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.  His academic interests include occupational and environmental toxicology, reproductive toxicology, pediatric toxicology and clinical pharmacology.

Accreditation: This event contains 3.0 hours of instruction and may be eligible for 0.5 ABIH CM credits.

Forum Series meets BCSP criteria for 0.75 COC point (0.25 COC point for each class)

This event will take place at the Lake Chalet in Oakland. Lunch wil be provided at 12:30pm. Talks are scheduled to begin at 1pm.
