Special Event: Annual Scholarship Fundraiser

Our annual scholarship fundraiser will take place after our meeting. Please bring new, unwrapped gifts, gift baskets, or sports memorabilia that we may auction off to raise money in support of our Scholarship Fund which goes to a student at Las Positas college who excells in the safety program. Help support the next generation of safety pros!

This years recipient of a $500 scholarship is Brandi Lechleiter. Brandi is a top performing student in the program at Las Positas. Brandi works in the National Ignition Facitility (NIF) at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. She is a Team Lead with responsibility for the health and safety of her team members. She is quite knowledgeable and often leads class discussion.

Cal/OSHA and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Year

Lisa Baiocchi will be our guest speaker this month and is an associate at Walter & Prince LLP, a Healdsburg, California law firm specializing in OSHA, crisis management, and “serious and willful misconduct” defense.  Lisa represents the firm’s clients in all aspects of Cal/OSHA and Fed/OSHA administrative process and defense, as well as “serious and willful misconduct” claims.  She has also assisted employers with crisis response, improving and/or updating their safety programs, as well as managing pre- and post-appeal abatement issues before Cal/OSHA.

As OSHA law continues to evolve in complexity, the need for more formal advocacy will likewise continue to grow.  Lisa’s strong research, analysis and writing skills have helped her successfully advocate for the firm’s clients, not only at the Occupational Safety and Health Appeals Board, but at the Superior and Appellate Court levels as well.
