Senior Risk Control Specialist – Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA).

Position

Under general direction of the Risk Control Manager (RCM), the Senior Risk Control Specialist conducts a broad range of workers’ compensation and property/liability related risk control services to members by assisting members in identifying and reducing potential loss exposures through risk control evaluations, on-site inspections, education, and technical support.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site Risk Control Evaluations that encompass a variety of workplace safety and property/liability topics.
  • Conduct on-site physical hazard inspections.
  • Perform on-site ergonomic evaluations. 
  • Provide direction and assistance to Members with customizing various safety programs to ensure they are feasible, effectively implemented, and in compliance with regulatory requirements. 
  • Research and understand the requirements of Cal/OSHA and other relevant regulations.
  • Develop detailed loss analysis reports.
  • Write accurate and concise communication when responding to Member questions.
  • Develop training publications/programs, advisories and sample program templates and forms.
  • Deliver training programs to educate members about risk management practices, laws and policies.

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in directly related field or equivalent and three years increasingly responsible work in directly related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, including but not limited to:

  • Strong technical knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and property and liability exposures in the public entity environment;
  • Excellent public speaking skills;
  • Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, members, and the public;
  • A general understanding of the claims process to identify loss drivers.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements of this position typically include:  walking, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, and driving..  This position will travel about 50% of the time.

Licensing Requirements

  • A valid California Driver’s license is required.
  • One professional designation such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS), or other industry recognized certifications, is required.
