Senior Risk Control Specialist – Special District Risk Management Authority (SDRMA).

Position
Under general direction of the Risk Control Manager (RCM), the Senior Risk Control Specialist conducts a broad range of workers’ compensation and property/liability related risk control services to members by assisting members in identifying and reducing potential loss exposures through risk control evaluations, on-site inspections, education, and technical support.
Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site Risk Control Evaluations that encompass a variety of workplace safety and property/liability topics.
- Conduct on-site physical hazard inspections.
- Perform on-site ergonomic evaluations.
- Provide direction and assistance to Members with customizing various safety programs to ensure they are feasible, effectively implemented, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Research and understand the requirements of Cal/OSHA and other relevant regulations.
- Develop detailed loss analysis reports.
- Write accurate and concise communication when responding to Member questions.
- Develop training publications/programs, advisories and sample program templates and forms.
- Deliver training programs to educate members about risk management practices, laws and policies.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in directly related field or equivalent and three years increasingly responsible work in directly related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job, including but not limited to:
- Strong technical knowledge of Cal/OSHA regulations and property and liability exposures in the public entity environment;
- Excellent public speaking skills;
- Ability to set priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneously;
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and good public relations with other employees, agencies, members, and the public;
- A general understanding of the claims process to identify loss drivers.
Physical Requirements
Physical requirements of this position typically include: walking, reaching, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, repetitive motions, occasional lifting up to 20 pounds, and driving.. This position will travel about 50% of the time.
Licensing Requirements
- A valid California Driver’s license is required.
- One professional designation such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Loss Control Specialist (CLCS), Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS), or other industry recognized certifications, is required.
Benefits

The hiring salary range is $94,553 – $136,427 and is dependent on experience and qualifications.

Jobsite Responsibilities and Duties:
- Works with Legal Counsel, HR Director, HSE Director, Learning & Development, Marketing.
- Assist with Plant program development, reviews and updates.
- Manage and maintain Smartsheet, forms, portals, dashboards and databases.
- Assist with incident investigation and documentation management.
- Assist in workers’ compensation compliance and reporting activities as required.
- Assist with OSHA recordkeeping and compliance.
- Assist marketing department with pre-qualification information for bids.
- Maintain training database and records.
- Assist with coordinating internal and external training.
- Assist project teams with health, safety, and environmental documentation. Ensure all safety data is documented and reported in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Assist with new hire onboarding process and documentation.
- Assist with training and presentation deck development.
- Collect and aggregate data from various sources related to construction safety incidents, compliance, training, and audits.
- Manage and maintain client and subcontractor prequalification data and programs, (ISN, Highwire)
- Collaborate with site managers, safety officers, and other stakeholders to gather relevant safety data.
- Conduct comprehensive analyses of safety-related data to identify trends, patterns, and potential areas for risk mitigation.
- Utilize statistical methods and data visualization tools to interpret complex datasets.
- Create clear and concise reports on safety metrics and trends for internal stakeholders.
- Create interactive dashboards and presentations tailored to different audiences, including executives and field personnel, to communicate findings effectively.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs and initiatives based on data-driven insights.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement in safety practices and policies.
- Actively participate in safety meetings and initiatives aimed at fostering a culture of safety across the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Objectives or Goals to Measure Performance:
- Meet with various departments to identify goals and establish deliverables, obtain feedback.

Skills or Experience:
- Minimum 2 years working in Smartsheets.
- Smartsheet Core Product Certification highly desired.
- Knowledge of safety law and construction practices.
- Knowledge of DOSH Public Safety Program and Cal-OSHA Permits.
- Knowledge of OSHA recordkeeping.
- Experience in Procore, Excel, Smartsheets and data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI)
- Experience with Microsoft Office programs and other related programs.
- Effective interpersonal and training skills.
- Excellent English language verbal and written communication skills. Spanish a plus.
